You have a gift for understanding the orchestration of a wind band

Paul’s arrangements show a deep and clear understanding of the unique orchestration challenges for the wind band, while remaining faithful to the composer’s original intentions. I also appreciate that Paul has been fantastically responsive two requests for minor corrections and updates. I must admit to you that I do not often perform transcriptions with concert bands. That stated, your work in this was quite outstanding. You have a gift for understanding the orchestration of a wind band. I will gladly continue to monitor your website for future opportunities.

Paul Noble’s contemporary band arrangements are really well done

I believe that Paul Noble’s contemporary band arrangements of Philip Lane’s orchestralpieces are really well done. Lane’s voice is appealing and accessible to audiences and players alike, particularly to those who enjoy British Light Music. Because of Noble’s extensive career as a band director, his orchestrations are colorful and well-balanced, and the writing is idiomatic to the instruments of the band.

Very Impressive, Paul

I look forward to becoming better acquainted with your fine contributions to our profession.

Imaginative, and filled with interesting effects

Paul Noble’s arrangement of “Overture on French Carols” is an imaginative setting, filled with interesting effects of timbre and countermelody in a brilliant and transparent score. My wind ensemble and audience were equally delighted. I can highly recommend this piece to those conductors with good players seeking an arrangement of traditional French Carols that goes beyond the ordinary in a very musical way.

I am looking forward to performing William Walton’s “Prelude and Fugue” (The Spitfire) as well as other interesting selections from his catalog in the near future.

* NOTE: The Indiana University Wind Ensemble performed the Walton “Prelude and Fugue” (The Spitfire) at the convention of the American Bandmasters Association in Indianapolis on March 1, 2012. Since then, the Indiana University Wind Ensemble has recorded 7 additional titles for this website.

NCBF will be looking at Paul Noble’s publications for more and more gems

National Concert Band Festival (UK) have established a Repertoire List for wind bands which is reviewed annually and this year we are thrilled to be able to include for the first time four British pieces which have been transcribed for wind band by Dr Paul Noble. This kind of enterprise has been long overdue and allows wind players to experience many orchestral pieces by well-known composers: William Walton, John Rutter, Philip Lane, Peter Warlock and so the list goes on. ncbf will certainly be looking further at Paul Noble’s publications for more and more gems.

“Finding accessible, fresh music for bands to play (without spending a fortune) is hard work, but not since finding Bandmusicpdf.net

Downloading the sheet music and printing as many copies as needed is the next step forward in developing the legacy of the modern wind band, helping to establish an immediate and personal link with the independent publisher, and Lambeth Wind Orchestra is proud to be associated with that effort.

The quality of the pieces is superb, presented to a professional printing house standard and makes my job easy as the band director in rehearsal and on the concert platform.

“Overture on French Carols” – – The rustic melodies are treated refreshingly well throughout each section of the band with scrumptious harmonies and constantly shifting textures ensuring that the audience isn’t bombarded by sound; the closing stages see all the musical strands weaved together like a neat garland with a suitably twinking finale.

“Bethlehem Down” – -Treated with sensitivity in this arrangement, the meandering tune visits every section of the band, bringing out soloists but also highlighting the inter-connectivity between all the players, making it a superb warm up piece, as well as a concert item. This is definitely going to be a Holiday favourite from now on.

We look forward to performing more works from this excellent catalogue and bringing Philip Lane’s music back into the minds of British audiences through the craft and precision of Paul Noble’s wonderful arrangements.

John Holland, Director
Lambeth Wind Orchestra, London

I’ve been recommending this music to band members, directors and librarians since I first received my order.

Every year I look for something different for our annual Holiday Concert, something out of the ordinary, not just a re-hash of the same 5 or 6 Christmas carols. This year we found it. Our community band read through “Three Christmas Pictures” and the immediate response was quite positive. Everyone loved both the musical challenges presented and the fact all three pieces were “Christmasy” but still original. I’m looking forward to our audience’s reaction in December and purchasing additional titles in the future.

When I enquired about the possibility of a treble clef baritone part, it was immediately emailed to me at no cost, so that I didn’t have to copy off a part! That is the kind of service that I appreciate.

Hej!

Hi!
This is a short message to give my warmest thanks and appreciation to Paul Noble and Bandmusicpdf.net. The Flen Wind Band, Sweden, that I conduct, is going to give a performance of Rutters Star Carol, with choir. In our library I found the music – unfortunately for symphony orchestra! However, luckily for me, I found Paul’s page Bandmusicpdf.net, and without delay I had a beautiful full score and a set of parts for wind band in my email, ready to download. And I also thank Paul for his help and generosity, providing a part for Euphonium in G clef within no time!I have been looking through the catalogues on Bandmusicpdf.net, and the arrangements I have read all live up the standard and high quality of Star Carol!
