Although mostly forgotten now, Victor Hely-Hutchinson’s orchestral music enjoyed some popularity during his lifetime, including the Overture to a Pantomime, composed in 1938. Most recently it has been recorded under the Heritage label by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Barry Wordsworth, conductor. The piece is a delight, with predictable melodies and harmonies, and a toe-tapping rhythm throughout.
