Notes from the composer: “I was asked to provide an orchestral piece suitable for Halloween concerts. My intention was to compose an original piece but, in my preparatory researches, I saw that the iconic pieces that I’ve included in Things That Go Bump In The Night could not be bettered for the purpose. I also realized that as well as having instantly recognizable melodies, which make them so popular, they were all beautifully crafted by masters of the art. The deceptive simplicity of ‘Funeral March of a Marionette’ (well known to fans of Alfred Hitchcock) shows an economy of writing which is rarely equaled. I’ve tried to weave together the individual pieces in a new and entertaining way which respects the composers’ works without losing their original appeal. This wind band arrangement by Paul Noble is full of craft and ingenuity. I’m sure that you will enjoy playing it.”
